Home » news » did you know: DME provides LPI Testing
DME believes providing a safe, high quality product to their customer is of the utmost importance. For this reason DME abides by strict guidelines for nondestructive examination of linear seam welds for bellows and other welds for expansion joint components. Liquid penetrant inspection, or LPI, is one form of non-destructive testing and is performed and written per ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Section V. LPI certification of a product is a trustworthy indicator to our customers they are receiving a safe and quality product.
There are 3 different levels of inspector certification, and each level denotes a greater responsibility and requires more understanding and training of the examination process. A Level I inspector is required to perform the test, however if an indication of a faulty weld is found, the piece in question is turned over to a Level II inspector and a Material Review Board (MRB) meeting is performed. A Level II inspector is also responsible for ensuring the program’s infrastructure is sound. This Level II inspector must make sure all of the materials used for testing are sufficient, and is responsible for ensuring the Level I inspector performing the test has up to date records. A Level III inspector is responsible for writing the entire program and overseeing the entire operation as well as ensuring such program integrates with the Quality Control program.
At DME, all LPI inspectors are level II. This ensures our customer each inspector is qualified and provides the fastest possible turnaround time without the sacrifice of quality or safety. In addition, DME has a level III inspector at their disposal.
LPI testing is an option to the DME customer, though some DME products are required to undergo LPI testing per ASME B31.3 and ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Section V. DME customers will always receive the highest quality and safest products available; that is our priority.
